Many families believe their children need to be in school to further their education and enhance their cognitive, social-emotional and physical development in order to stay academically and socially advanced. Spectrum is offering the opportunity for children ages 2 - 9 to attend on-site academic learning June 1, 2020 - June 26, 2020 and STEAM Summer Camp July 6, 2020 - August 28, 2020 with limited student enrollment. Spectrum will continue to provide virtual learning through the summer for children ages 3 - 9 based on our on-site STEAM Summer Camp topics.
Located in NY state, Spectrum is taking guidelines from the CDC and OCFS and translating them into regulations for operation to keep our staff and children safe as follows:
At Spectrum we are extra vigilant as far as the health and safety of the children. The staff thoroughly cleaned and sanitized and will continue to clean and sanitize the academic domain centers, toys and touchable surfaces several times a day. Walls and floors have been repainted and resurfaced. Many soft toys have been removed from the facility.
Staff will screen children upon arrival each day, by taking their temperature no higher than 100 degrees Fahrenheit with a digital thermometer and ask questions related to COVID-19. We limit non-essential visitors on site. All visitors are asked to schedule an appointment before or after camp and school operating hours and to follow health and safety guidelines at time of visit.
Children are required to bring to school an extra pair of shoes to wear inside the facility. They will change their shoes upon arrival, outdoor play, and departure.
Our class sizes will be kept small and limited to eight children to each adult. Spectrum’s 5000 square feet learning environment, an additional 1500 square feet of outdoor playground, an additional 5000 square feet building and 1000 square feet exterior provide a huge area for children to learn and play.
Staff wears a face covering; i.e. mask, shield, any time they are less than 6 ft. from each other or interacting with children. Parents are still allowed inside the facility. According to OCFS, parents must have access to their children. However, parents are required to wear a face covering, practice social distancing, and restrict their movement inside the building.
Everyone staff and children will wash hands upon arrival after health check, before and after snack and lunch, before and after activities and projects, before and after outdoor play, and before departure.
Social distancing guidelines are the hardest for early childhood programs to reinforce. Outside of members of the same household, the CDC recommends staying six feet away from other people. Six feet social distancing will be enforced wherever possible and at snack time and lunchtime. Each child will have an assigned workstation and materials.
